Different Energy Sources

We need different energy sources to live and work. They include wind, solar and geothermal as well as biomass sources. In addition to being a major source of electricity, these sources can also be used to heat and transport. The main issue with these energy sources is that they could cause greenhouse gas emissions if they are burned to produce electricity. This leads to the need for more green energy sources.

Fossil fuels are the most common type of energy. They include coal, oil and natural gas. They were created millions of years ago when prehistoric animals and plants died and were buried beneath layers of sedimentary rocks. Then, under the proper conditions, they slowly transformed into carbon-rich substances which, when burned, generate energy. These fossil fuels are non-renewable since they will exhaust in our lifetimes, or in many lives.

Renewable energy sources are, however are constantly replenished. The primary renewable energy source is sunlight, which gives heat and light. We use it for our homes as well as for businesses and automobiles. Wind is a renewable energy source that produces electricity through spinning turbines. We have used it since humans first began to harness the wind for millennia. We use biological processes create an ethanol (a alcohol-like substance that is clear and transparent that can be used to make fuel) from crops and waste.

Hydropower is the main renewable energy source in America, but biofuels and wind are likely to overtake it. Hydropower is a natural cycle to harness water’s rapid flow, which is used to produce electricity.
